Match preview: City v Forest Green Rovers

Exeter City host Forest Green Rovers on Wednesday night.

It is the fifth time the sides will have met this season, with City winning two and drawing one of those four previous matches and the other tie being abandoned at half-time with the score at 0-0.

City go into the match on the back of victories over Coventry City (January 13) and Notts County (January 20) having exited the Emirates FA Cup at the third round stage at the hands of Premier League West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, January 6.

Assistant manager Matt Oakley is pleased with how the players have responded to that cup loss.

"When we had the Liverpool FA Cup game a couple of seasons ago, we had a period either side of that game where we lost four matches,” he said. “Our season was on track and we fell away because of that period. I think maybe we lost focus, call it what you like, and that was a big turning point in our season.

“This season we addressed that and we talked to the players about it. We said: ‘We can’t allow the West Brom game – because we were not great in the first half of that match – to derail us and stop all the good work that we have done up until this point.

“So the way the lads have reacted with the Coventry City game and then the Notts County game has just been fantastic.”
