City-keeper Christy Pym has said that the home support at St James Park is massive to the Grecians promotion push ahead of tomorrow’s match against in-form Carlisle United at St James Park.
“It’s massive” said Christy. “It’s always important having that home atmosphere. It’s imposing if you are a player, you can’t hear each other.
“We need the fans, it’s a big part of the season. People are fighting for points and it’s not going to be tidy stuff.
“It’s going to be, who can get one more goal than the opposition, so we need them to stick with us and push us along.”
City face a Carlisle United side in red hot form, notching 4 wins in their last four games, sitting just three points outside the play-offs.
“They are a very good team in very good form, we take nothing for granted in this league. Every week is a battle." said Christy.
“It’s their last few chances and games for them to get into the play-offs and make something of their season.
“They are a good side, we knew that when we played them at their place. It was a tough game then and it will be on Saturday.”
Christy, an ever-present between the sticks this season, picked up the fan voted Hawksmoor Investment Management Player of the Month award for February, the second consecutive month.
The shot-stopper claimed a clean sheet in City's 1-0 win away at Grimsby Town and made key saves against Crewe Alexandra and Wycombe Wanderers to help City to four points from the two matches.
Commenting on the fan-voted award he said: “It’s nice to be recognised again. It’s more of a surprise this month.
“I thought I had a steady month with consistency, which is important for a keeper.”
The clean sheet against Grimsby Town was Christy’s eleventh of the season, and Christy was keen to emphasise the teams desire to claim more shutouts before the end of the season.
“We want more clean sheets. We want to look at these home games coming up, especially with Troy Brown and JMT back, having a steady back four in front of me will always help with that. Teams get you clean sheets.
“It’s a goal to get fifteen and above this season. We haven’t reached that target in the last few years and it’s something I want to achieve this year.”
