Exeter City forward Robbie Simpson says there is a positive vibe in the dressing room as the Grecians prepare to take on Lincoln City in the first leg of the Sky Bet League Two play-offs.
Paul Tisdale’s side will make the trip to Sincil Bank looking to take away an encouraging result prior to the second leg at St James Park, and Simpson says there is plenty of optimism in the City camp.
He said: “We are still here, still enjoying being in each other’s company training. There is a positive vibe and we are looking forward to Saturday.
“It’s going to be a very tough test. There’s four really good teams in the play-offs, all evenly matched. We are going to have to have our tactics spot on away from home and hopefully we can bring them back to St James Park with the tie either in the balance or in our favour and we can finish the job.”
Robbie missed the play-offs last season as he continued to recover from long term injury, but the striker who netted in City’s final match of the regular season against Colchester United in a 1-0 win, will be determined to play a part this time around.
He continued: “It was tough to watch on last year, I was more nervous than if I’d have actually played! It will be good to be a part of these play-offs and hopefully make a good contribution.”
The Grecians took 406 fans to the match at Sincil Bank on Good Friday, and it is expected that the City supporters will continue to travel well in numbers, something Robbie is looking forward to witnessing.
“It was a great atmosphere up there.” Robbie said: “Even though we lost, our fans were brilliant. The minute we knew we had Lincoln we all said it was going to be a great atmosphere. Of course, we all saw what it was like at St James Park against Carlisle United as well. They are going to be two great ties.”
