Exeter City defender Dara O’Shea is pleased to have been nominated for the Checkatrade Trophy player of the round following his impressive performances.
The youngster, who is currently on loan from Championship side West Bromwich Albion, has impressed in all three group matches as City kept clean sheets against Yeovil Town, West Ham United under-21s and Bristol Rovers.
Following his nomination, Dara was happy to receive recognition but insisted that the most important thing was qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition as the Grecians now set their sights on Peterborough United in the next round.
Dara said: “It’s a great achievement to get but the main thing was to qualify and get out the group. I’m sure they (friends) probably have been voting and some people have sent me some nice messages which is good.”
Dara has put in several impressive defensive performances. His confidence in possession and the ability to bring the ball out from the back has helped the Grecians spring many attacks and he came close to getting his first goal in senior football when he forced Bristol Rovers keeper Adam Smith into a smart save with a powerful header.
The youngster’s displays in the competition have also helped him secure a spot in City’s starting XI in recent weeks, with him playing the full 90 minutes against Blackpool, in the Emirates FA Cup first round, and Northampton Town, in Sky Bet League Two on Saturday.
If you wish to vote for Dara then you must make your entry before tomorrow (Friday, November 23) at midday. To vote for the Irishman click this link.
