📝 FA Youth Cup Preview: City v Plymouth Argyle

Exeter City’s under-18s enter the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday evening when they welcome Plymouth Argyle to St James Park in the first round of the competition.

Chad Gribble’s side, who have picked up some good league form of late, go into the match looking to give a good account of themselves as they aim to confirm a place in the next round of the competition.

Last year the Grecians slipped to a narrow defeat at St James Park in the first round when they took on Charlton Athletic with the London side taking away a 2-1 victory.

Ahead of this year's fixture, Chad said: “First and foremost, we’re looking forward to it, the FA Youth Cup has great tradition for under-18s players.

“It’s a tradition that we’ve always enjoyed being a part of in the past and we’re looking forward to being a part of it again.

“Plymouth are in our league, but the Youth Cup is a completely different competition. Plymouth had a good run in the competition last year, so it’s certainly going to be a challenging game and it’s a derby game, which is never easy, but we’re looking forward to the challenge."

LAST TIME WE MET

The sides last met on the opening day of the season where the young Grecians ran out 1-0 winners against their Devon rivals.

Lewis Wilson netted the only goal of the game in the 30th minute when he headed in from a free-kick. Following the goal, a resilient defensive performance ensured Gribble’s side would get off to a good start to their league campaign.
