Captain Jake Taylor is pleased with the form Exeter City are taking into the Christmas period, with the side having won their last three League Two matches and only lost one out of 10 in all competitions.
City face Walsall at home on Saturday, before Newport County visit St James Park on Boxing Day. The Grecians have been good at home in recent months and Jake says it is important that they are going into a hectic run of fixtures on good form.
“We are really looking forward to it,” he said. “The Christmas period is a vital part of the season with so many games and so many points up for grabs and teams that go on a good run around Christmas it stands you in good stead going into the last part of the season.
“We are at home and we have been good at home recently. So, if we can continue our good home form that would be nice. Whoever we play against though it is going to be difficult, but we put the hard work in during the week and we will be ready for whatever they bring for us and hopefully we can get another result for the boys and fans.”
Such has Exeter City’s form been over the past 10 games that Jake has found it difficult to get back into the starting XI since his sending off at Bradford City that forced him to miss three matches through suspension. However, the captain, is not too worried about that as he is pleased to see his teammates doing well.
“There is so many games at the moment coming up so it is important the whole squad are ready when called upon. That is why, here, we have got a fantastic squad and whoever plays seems to be doing a really good job at the moment.
“The boys that have been playing have been doing a really well and we are winning games and that is the most important thing for this football club. I want everyone to be as successful as possible so if the boys are playing and winning then I am cheering them on from behind and if I’m involved and winning then that is also a good thing. We have got a fantastic squad and it is important that we use everyone this season.”
Speaking about the central midfield position in particular, Jake added: “They (Archie Collins and Nigel Atangana) have been doing brilliant. Since Nigel has come back in, he is full fit now, and he has been fantastic. He is a real presence in the middle and Archie just grows every game. Since last season he has come on leaps and bounds and he is really finding his feet and doing a really good job for this club. So long may it continue."
