A statement from Exeter City in response to yesterday’s announcement that a consortium led by Virgin Atlantic and Stobart Group has reached an agreement to take control of Flybe.
Flybe has sponsored Exeter City for 15 years, one of the longest standing commitments ever for a current Football League club.
Julian Tagg, chairman of Exeter City, said: "Along with many other partners, Flybe has kept us informed about this development and we have an open dialogue with their management team, who assure us that, for now, it is ‘business as usual.
"At this stage it is a little early to know how any relationship will develop, but it will be our intention to do all we can to maintain and grow the airline links which have been of such benefit for our club, the community and the city of Exeter. We will work hard to maintain our link with the airline industry as this takeover unfolds.
He added: "Flybe has shown tremendous commitment to Exeter City through its long-term sponsorship which began in 2003 and has seen us through many highs and lows, including promotions, relegations, Wembley finals and cup games. This has been a two-way partnership and the team and fans have been extremely supportive of the airline over the years. The significant contribution Flybe has made to our city should also not be underestimated and, indeed, should be applauded."
