Ben Seymour says he is looking forward to the start of the new season having returned to pre-season training yesterday.
The players were put through a punishing run before doing some ball work in teams to get them back into the competitive mindset. Ben said he enjoyed the first sessions and was pleased to be back amongst the team.
“It is great to be back,” he said. “Obviously, it came off the back of the disappointment of the play-offs but we have got our time off to recuperate after what happened and we are raring to go again
“It was a really good session. It mingled the group with the new boys coming in. It is good to get a bit of ball work done, but let’s not forget the run at the start which was tough. However, you know what pre-season is about. It is about getting fit and that is definitely going to include running. It is not my favourite type of training, but we will get through it as a team and I am sure we will be ready for the season when it comes.”
Manager Matt Taylor has said that the younger players will have to step up this season, after eight senior players were released in the summer. However Ben, along with his fellow young professionals at City, performed well last season when they were called upon for games in the Leasing.com Trophy and the Under-23 Premier League Cup and he is confident the group have what it takes to perform regular in the first team league environment.
“I think us boys coming through are very capable,” he said. “I think we have shown that in multiple times in the opportunities that has been given to us by Matt. For example, in the Under-23s Premier League Cup which we were going in to win it – that was our aspirations for that cup – obviously it got cut short by Covid, but I think once us boys get the opportunity we will definitely step up and we are very much looking forward to the new season.”
