Exeter City defender Aaron Martin is says the team are determined to return to winning ways when the Grecians host Crawley Town on Saturday.
The Grecians are looking to bounce back after falling to defeat last weekend against Northampton Town, and Aaron understands the importance of gaining points at the latter part of the season in Sky Bet League Two.
“There’s still quite a lot of points to play for but there’s really not long left now in the season, so every point is massive for us,” he said.
“It was really disappointing last week, we just came off three wins on the bounce so to lose on Saturday was disappointing. We’ve just got to pick ourselves up and go again like we have done in the past and keep pushing on for what we all want.”
Speaking of the promotion battle, Aaron added: “We still want to win the league so we want to make sure that we give ourselves the best opportunity. It’s obviously difficult at this part of the season and when we win teams around us also win, so everyone is looking forward to getting stuck in on Saturday.”
This weekend also presents a welcome return to St James Park where City have been strong this season, and Aaron is excited to play in front of the home support again.
“The fans have been absolutely brilliant all season both home and away,” said the City defender. “They’ve travelled some serious distance to stay with us and we are really appreciate what they’ve done for us.
“Hopefully we can reward them with a win on Saturday and a good performance, and to make it up to them for last Saturday.”
A large part of City’s success this season has been down to a strong defensive unit, and Aaron wants the team to reinstate that defensive stability.
He said: “We went through a period of keeping loads of clean sheets which were obviously great for us. As of late, however, for whatever reason we’ve conceded a few goals which has been frustrating, especially for a defender. We work hard on our defensive shape and hopefully we can return to getting the clean sheets.”
Concerning this weekend’s opposition Crawley, Aaron added: “They’re always a difficult team to play against. We saw that at their place this year and last, so we know what to expect.
“They are a good side and have got good players, so we’ve just got to make sure we concentrate on us and make sure we do what we know we can do best and hopefully go on and win the game.”
