Exeter City defender Aaron Martin says that there is a hunger amongst the players to build on a good Christmas period ahead of their match with Cambridge United on Saturday.
The Grecians, on the back of eight games unbeaten in Sky Bet League Two, sit second in the table, three points behind league leaders Swindon Town with a game in hand. However, Aaron says it is important they approach Saturday’s game in the right manner and keep that desire and hunger for three points.
"We have been playing really well of late,” said Aaron. “We have had a good Christmas period we just need to keep that going now and just keep pushing on like we have been. It is always important to have a good Christmas period and we have managed to do that, so we just need keep it going now, keep everyone fit and keep that hunger and keep pushing to what we all want here.”
Despite having only lost once in the last 15 games, manager Matt Taylor has reiterated that there is more to come from this group of players. It was a view Aaron Martin shared, especially following an impressive performance from the youngsters in the squad in last week’s Leasing.com Trophy victory over Ipswich Town.
“There is definitely more to come,” he said. “I know we have been getting a lot of 1-0 wins at the moment, but I think we are very close from those being one-nils to three or four. We are creating a lot of chances and we are keeping it tight at the back at the moment. Like I said, we have to keep pushing on together and keep doing what we have been doing to get those results.”
“The youngsters have all been brilliant,” he added. “There is a lot of good talent coming through. It is a really good set up here. All of them have been brilliant every time they have come into train with us and everytime they have been called upon to play, they have done really well. They are a credit to themselves.”
Speaking about competition for places, Aaron added: “You know if you are not doing it, somebody else is ready and waiting to jump in. You have to be at it all the time. Matty (Taylor) demands that every day and we all demand that from each other as well, which is good.”
