Exeter City have signed Brennan Dickenson from MK Dons on a deal until the end of the season.
Brennan, who made 93 appearances for Colchester United over three seasons in League Two, has played for both MK Dons and Gillingham in League One. He is a left-footed player with an eye of goal and Matt Taylor says he believes that he can come into the squad and improve Exeter City.
“It is a bit of balance, first and foremost,” said Matt. “He is the left sided player that I have spoken about and that I have been looking for. The January window is such a difficult window in terms of getting players in of value, who will improve us and keep us going in the right direction and we feel Brennan has got the potential to do that.
“It has probably been a frustrating first half of the season for himself and he needs to get game time. We need to use him wisely, but it is someone we feel we can get going in the right direction and then he is going to be a big asset for this team.
"He has got pace and power. He is direct, he is dynamic, and he is going to be responsible out of possession and hopefully he can provide us with some attacking dimension down our left. As much as we have got it down our right, with Randell (Williams), we need it down our left as well and we see him as a player who can do that.”
Speaking about his experience in League One and League Two, Matt added: “Before his injury a few seasons back he was one of the most in-demand players in the lower leagues. We want to try and getting him to that sort of form. Get him feeling confident about the place and feeling comfortable in this environment.
“That will be absolutely key and he has got free reign to go and play best he possibly can. He has got to fight for his shirt first and foremost. He has got to get in the team and then when he’s in the team he has got to keep hold of that shirt because, obviously Joel Randell and Jayden Richardson have done so well on that left-hand side recently and with Deano (Dean Moxey) coming back in that is another option. However, January is a difficult window in terms of bringing in players who can affect the team in a positive way and we think Brennan can do that.”
