George Hamill became the latest addition to the coaching set up at Exeter City’s Women’s Team, as he joined the Club following a three-year spell with Buckland Athletic.
George began his coaching career with Airdrieonians FC in Scotland, his role with the North Lanarkshire Club to coach and assist within their Academy. On moving South, George took up the Goalkeeper Coaching role with Ilminster Town, working with both their Men and Women’s Teams.
After having watched the Women’s Team play at Ilminster and having watched Glasgow City Women train on the facilities at Airdrieonians in Scotland, George was then eager to take on the position of Goalkeeper Coach with Buckland Athletic Women following their promotion to the National League.
After three years at Homers Heath, George has now made the move to Exeter City to work alongside the Club’s talented group of young Goalkeepers. “Having spent several years at Buckland, working with some fantastic staff, players and coaches, I felt it was time for a new challenge. After conversations with Abbie about the desire in adding a Goalkeeper Coach to the infrastructure, I decided to take the opportunity at Exeter City.”
George is no stranger to the football club having been part of the Academy scouting team under the guidance of Ali McGiveny. “I have met some great coaches and staff at the Academy. Exeter City has a good feeling about the place across all areas of it’s football planning.”
With Megan Lightfoot and Kyanna Orchard sharing the responsibilities equally last season, George is now looking forward to advancing City’s young keepers. “My hope is that our Goalkeepers can continue to progress with their development and that by doing so it helps the squad reach it’s potential. The squad has a plethora of excellent players and are well supported by Abbie and Aaron and a good extended non coaching support.”
With Pre-Season preparations beginning this week, it will now offer the chance for George to begin work in applying his wealth of knowledge to assist City’s young Goalkeepers fulfil their potential. “I am delighted to be linking up with Abbie and Aaron and am looking forward to the opportunity I have been offered as we try to progress the Women’s Team to that next level.”
