We are pleased to announce that One of Our Own, James Dodd, has signed a one year contract with the club.
Over pre-season, academy product James had been on a short term deal to allow Matt Taylor time to assess his readiness, and he has now penned a permanent deal with the club.
After suffering two serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in close succession in the academy, James was out of the game for almost two years as he recovered. Now fully fit, he has played a part in the Grecians' pre-season campaign, playing numerous times as well as scoring against Bath City earlier this month.
"It can't be underestimated what James has gone through, and this is just a recognition of what a good player he is," City boss Taylor said of James' deal.
"Going back two or three years before his injury, he was a player with huge potential and was an exciting prospect.
"Coming back from two cruciate injuries, I can't speak highly enough of how he's dealt with it, and his performances in pre season have been really promising," he added.
"For James, we'll look to get him out on loan so he can find some consistent game time, so that'll happen almost immediately."
James himself is grateful for the opportunity.
"I'm really proud. It's been a tough time for me and a long road, but I'm excited to finally be able to push on," he said.
"I'm excited to show Matt what I can do, but I'm looking forward to a potential loan to get some consistent minutes under my belt, and then take my skills eventually into League Two."
