Matt Jay has expressed his delight at being named club captain for the 2021/22 season. One of Our Own, MJ fill the boots of former skipper Jake Taylor, and cannot wait to get going in his new role.
“It is a real honour for me, and my family. I’m really pleased and excited for the journey. Hopefully I can bring good things to the club and it feels like the next step in my Exeter City career. I can’t wait to put my own stamp on things.”
MJ has been with City since 2003 and has gone on to make over 100 appearances since his professional debut in 2013, consistently showing hard work and his commitment to the club, which he believes has played a part in being given the armband.
“Jordan Moore-Taylor was the last player to come through to be given the captaincy and Archie [Collins] deputised for Jake last season, so it’s something that is trying to be promoted here.
“Matt [Taylor] told me it would be a learning process a long the way but I’ve got good people around me. He said his door is always open. There is still some stuff to work on, but since I knew Jake was leaving it was something I felt I could step into and I’m so grateful to be given the opportunity.”
