🏡 McCarthy Stone name new development after Richard Pym

McCarthy Stone, the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, has revealed its new Retirement Living Plus development, on Bewick Avenue in Topsham, has been named Pym Court.

Pym Court has been named after the recently appointed Club Board Chairman of Exeter City Football Club, Richard Pym CBE. Richard’s appointment continues a strong family footballing legacy within the area - his grandfather was legendary Exeter City goalkeeper Dick Pym, who signed to the team in 1911 and went on to play a remarkable 186 consecutive league matches. The Topsham born player later transferred to Bolton Wanderers in 1921 with whom he played in the first ever FA Cup final at Wembley in 1923.

Nicki Beswarick, Divisional Marketing Manager for McCarthy Stone Southern, said: “We wanted to choose a name for our new Topsham development that was not only meaningful, but would also resonate with local people and future McCarthy Stone homeowners. We took inspiration from the areas ongoing sporting legacy.”

Richard Pym said: “I feel honoured to have this development named after the Pym family. My grandfather was born in Topsham, as was I, and we can trace our roots back four centuries in the town where many branches of the Pym family still live. Topsham is a strong and friendly community and I hope the new homeowners enjoy the many benefits of the town, which extend to excellent train and bus links to St. James Park if they wish to join us for a match!”

Once complete, Pym Court will provide everything the over 70s could want for an enjoyable and independent retirement. Bridging the gap between conventional retirement living and residential care, an Estates Manager and experienced team will be on hand day and night to oversee the running of the development and will also provide tailored support packages to suit individual needs.

The development will feature a large homeowners’ lounge - perfect for getting to know new neighbours - as well as an on-site bistro, which will serve fresh and nutritious meal options for homeowners every day.

Customers will also be able to choose from a range of flexible Retirement Living Plus solutions to suit them and their personal circumstances, whether they prefer to buy outright, rent or to take advantage of the part buy, part rent option.

Located in the coastal suburb of Topsham, Pym Court is ideally positioned close to a selection of local amenities, including a supermarket, petrol station and a selection of shops and restaurants with several parks close by. The development is perfectly situated to make the most of the local transport links to Exeter, Exmouth and Paignton, with transport links from Topsham Railway Station to Exeter St David’s for direct trains to London, Birmingham and further afield.
