Exeter City are looking for better fortunes on their travels, as they make the trip to Keith Curle’s Oldham Athletic.
Ahead of Tuesday’s fixture here are a selection of Latics’ who could make the game that little bit harder.
Conor McAleny
Striker
After the departure of Danny Rowe to Bradford in January, Exeter City fans would have been relieved to hear the dangerman depart. However, this season there have been more cogs to Oldham’s attacking machine.
Conor McAleny is having the season of his life at the moment. 14 goals in 36 games have blitzed his way to the top of Oldham’s scoring charts, with a strike in every competition this campaign.
A product of the Everton Academy, McAleny brings pace and precision to the Oldham front line. As a youth he was quite the athlete, competing in the Merseyside games in the 80-metre sprint, shot put and triple jump.
A supposed journeyman, The Oldham number 18 has played for eleven clubs in his career with the majority being loan spells. Macca has featured for Brentford, Cardiff and Charlton amongst other higher league clubs, so is more than a match for League Two football. He found his feet at Fleetwood, with nine goals in 55 appearances for the Cod Army before moving to Oldham in the summer- scoring on his debut in a 3-0 win over Carlisle.
Dylan Bahamboula
Attacking Midfielder
An engine needs its spark and for the Latics Dylan Bahamboula provides it. Bahamboula is a tireless worker for the Blues and this season has been prone to a number of worldies, too!
With four goals eight assists in the league, the midfielder has been the ignition for everything going forward in Harry Kewell’s, now Keith Curle’s side. The Congo international has been a silky addition to Boundary Park after signing from Tsarko Selo Sofia in October.
Accustomed to many a YouTube montage, Bahamboula has added flair to League Two since his arrival. His athletic frame makes him tough to tackle, and tough in the tackle as well. His main asset in taking on his man, usually down the Oldham right.
Dylan Bahamboula had a brief spell in Hungary after much of his early career in France. This has been his first foray into English football and after the start he has made at Oldham, certainly looks one for the future too.
Harry Clarke
Centre-back
On loan from Arsenal, the 19-year-old has shown experience beyond his age at the heart of the Oldham defence. Though he missed the first game against City in November through injury, Clarke has been the first name on the defensive team-sheet this season.
Born in Ipswich, Clarke signed for the Gunners in 2015. After notching up over fifty appearances for the North London youth team, moved to Boundary Park in October. He scored his first professional goal in November as he prodded home a late winner against Cheltenham, to earn Oldham’s first home win of the season.
One for the future, Clarke looks assured on the ball and strong in the tackle, enticing an interesting battle with Ryan Bowman on Tuesday night!
