The Exeter City Foundation continues to pay a BIG monthly prize of a cool £1,000, the great majority of members are City fans, and winners have their chance to share their supporting experiences with a wider audience.
May’s BIG winner is Rob Stephen, who only joined the scheme a year ago to help the Club through the Covid crisis. In his own words, this is his City supporting experience:
“I have followed City as long as I can remember, for the best part of 50 years now. However, I have been exiled in various places since I was 18 and, since then, I seem to have become more passionate about the club. I have lived in Cumbria for the last 24 years and, fortunately, Carlisle have been in the same division as us for most of that time so have been able to go to these games and enjoyed banter with the locals, particularly when we've won.
"All of the big wins against our local rivals are memorable, none more so than our win over Argyle last season. However, for me the wins over Carlisle are particularly pleasing. The play-off semi-final win a couple of years ago was excellent. I went to the away leg which, although we got pegged back to 3-3, it was a great game and it all worked out well in the end, right at the end.
"The best player I remember from my early supporting days was Fred Binney. He seemed to score every week. The early 80s team was a particular favourite, especially Jimmy Giles who luckily I met several times, and possibly less lucky to have played local cricket against! The recent sides have also been a joy to watch when I've been able to with so many academy players coming through.
"The money has come at a good time - since hearing about the prize there has been talk about a hotel break for the family now we are able to get away, and we are just about to get the bathroom redone so it won't be wasted. I'm hoping to put some aside for a 1931 subscription too.”
