📝 Match Preview: Exeter City Women vs Cardiff City Ladies

This Weekend see’s the final match preparation for the Devon County Cup Final as Cardiff City Ladies are the visitors to Speeds Meadow, Cullompton.

With James Fishlock’s side participating in the National League Southern Premier alongside Plymouth Argyle, the higher division opponents will be the perfect opponent for City to test themselves before the final on May 30.

Cardiff City Ladies, like most teams in the National Leagues, had a short season. Only four League games were completed before the curtailment, with three victories coming in those games. Notably the South Wales side faced Plymouth Argyle on the opening day, winning 7-0 at the Manadon Sports Hub, as Kylie Nolan hit a hat trick.

Nolan, alongside Cori Williams and Jasmine Turner provided the main goal threats for Cardiff during their season, Nolan with five goals, Williams with four and Turner with three. The team returned from Lockdown with a fiercely contested FA Cup tie against a strong Oxford United side, Cardiff narrowly losing 1-0, a strong response after losing the league fixture 4-1 in October.

Since the FA Cup tie, Fishlock’s Team have played against West Bromwich Albion and Boldmere St Michaels, winning both fixtures, scoring eight goals in the process. Wale’s International’s Maria Francis-Jones, Morgan Rogers and Cori Williams were all amongst the scorers in the latest encounter, underlining the quality facing the Grecians at the weekend.

After a gruelling semi-final against Marine Academy Plymouth, Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley will be keen to use the depth of the squad for this friendly, offering opportunities for those looking to stake a claim for the Final. High class opposition will be the perfect preparation for the Team, as they will seek to hit the level of performance needed to win the Devon County Cup and end the season in the best way possible.
