đź“ť Match Preview: City Women vs Plymouth Argyle Women

Exeter City Women take a break from League action this weekend, as Plymouth Argyle are the visitors to Speeds Meadow for a League Cup tie this Sunday (Kick Off 2pm.)

The determining round fixture will decide which team competes further in this competition and which team heads into the Plate Competition, one consisting of those teams who are unsuccessful in the weekend’s determining round.

It has been a summer of change at Argyle, with several players returning to the team after a year of absence. Zoey Cunningham and Natasha Knapman both signed from Buckland Athletic, whilst the names of Rebecca Dandridge, Gabi Alphous and Jemma Rose will be equally familiar to Argyle supporters from their previous stints with the Club. Olivia Ramsey and Emily Eaton were both added from Marine Academy, as Ryan Perks has looked to freshen the squad.

Plymouth have had a difficult start in the early weeks of the new campaign, defeat on the opening day at Portsmouth was followed up by defeat at home to Southampton. An excellent away victory at Keynsham followed, Gabi Alphous at the double as the Greens romped to a 5-1 victory, however last weekend saw Oxford United head back north with all three points, as they won comfortably by five goals to nil at the Manadon Sports Hub.

With City’s Devon County Cup Final victory still fresh in the memory, Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley will be expecting a more competitive Argyle side this weekend. With this the third cup competition the Team face, the temptation will be to rotate the Squad, with several of the City group looking to make their case for the busy months ahead. However, this is a Devon Derby. The Greens will no doubt be looking for revenge and, with a Devon County Cup tie between the two around the corner, part two of the 2021 trilogy looks set to offer a competitive, exciting afternoon’s football.
