🚗 Away Day Guide: Northampton Town

Did someone mention a promotion party? Well, the next stop on the party bus is Sixfields with an away day trip to Northampton Town.

1,400 glorious Grecians with be taking the 190 mile trip, so here’s what to expect.  

Stadium

  • Record Attendance: 24,523 (v Fulham, Division 1, 1966- at the County Ground) 7,798 (v Manchester United, FA Cup 2016 & v Derby County, FA Cup 2019- At Sixfields)
  • Year opened: 1994
  • Address: Upton Way, Northampton, NN5 5QA.

After nearly 100 years ground sharing with the County Cricket club, a new football specific stadium was designed in the mid-nineties to drive the Club forward.

Back at the County Ground, Town recorded their record attendance of 24,523 vs Fulham in 1966. In 2016, Manchester United sold out Sixfields to its capacity.

In 2014, a new £10.25m redevelopment to the East Stand was commissioned met by criticism from fans reducing the capacity and still remains unfinished to this day, though in June Northampton had a new lease of hope as plans are back in progress.

Tickets are all but sold out for our trip to Sixfields. We will update fans if any become available via returns.  

Getting to Sixfields

By Car (3:34 hrs) SATNAV: NN5 5QA

There are several routes you can take to Northampton. Via the M5 and M4, turn off at Junction 15 for Swindon and take the A420 (nice) to Oxford. After a short hop on the M40 race past Silverstone and follow the signs for Northampton.

Alternatively, you can follow the M5 until Junction 4A for the M42, join the M6 Southbound and merge onto the M1. Northampton is served by J16.

Car Parking
Northampton Town have extended a partnership with the North Car Park at the Stadium. Supporters using the North non-tarmac car park at Sixfields will be required to pay £4.00 to park their car at all matches.

If you are parking anywhere else, please be respectful of local residents and businesses and park considerately.

Pubs and Matchday refreshments

Northampton are opening a bar directly outside the away end on Saturday just for City fans! Usually the Carr’s Bar is accessible for travelling supporters however as Northampton are expecting a sell-out crowd, Grecians fans have been given this new marquee to purchase pre-match refreshments.

Alcohol will not be on sale inside the ground but City fans have been invited to the TGI Fridays, the Sixfields and the Walter Tull.

Saturday will be sunny and partially cloudy with temperatures reaching around 15° C.
