📝 Match Preview: Rochdale (H)

Exeter City take on Rochdale at St James Park this Saturday with a slim chance of automatic promotion, but they would need several results to go their way if it were to be achieved.

Following Easter Monday's 2-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers, a win for the Grecians, coupled with an unlikely trio of defeats for Northampton Town, Bristol Rovers and Sutton United, as well as Mansfield Town dropping points, would secure League One football next season

Rochdale, who travel down to Devon for the first time since 2014, were 2-1 winners over Hartlepool United on Monday, when Eoghan O'Connell scored a sublime individual goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Matt Taylor's Thoughts

With four matches remaining this season, the Grecians must pick up as many points as possible if they are to maintain their place inside the top three, but Matt expects Rochdale to make it difficult for his side this weekend.

"Rochdale should be given a lot of recognition for how they've performed this season. The fact they are safe and are looking up instead of down suggests what a fantastic job the manager has done," Matt said.

"It's not often you watch the opposition in preparation for playing them and you fall in love with a team straight away, but Rochdale. The way they play really impresses me.

"There will be no excuses as to why two very good footballing sides cannot go at it on Saturday."

George Ray was on the scoresheet with a looping header as the Grecians picked up a point at Spotland on one of the coldest days in the history of the planet, as the snow and winds swept across the North of England. Max Taylor equalised for the home side, who also missed a penalty.
