After five successive away fixtures, Exeter City Women will travel to Poole Town this weekend for their final road trip of the 2021/2022 season. Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side will then finish their campaign with three consecutive home fixtures and a showpiece Devon County Cup Final.
Poole Town have had a tough season. Rooted to the bottom of the division, the Dolphins have only one point this season and have found both points and goals hard to come by. Town are on a seven match losing streak in all competitions and have not found the back of the net in the National League in their last eight matches.
Captain Emma King, Emily Wilkinson and Danielle Maidment have performed well for Town in this difficult season, all three receiving considerable recognition from opposing teams. Emma Acott has been Matt Light team’s most potent threat; her three goals include the last time Town scored in a League fixture with a strike at Swindon back in November.
For Poole’s difficulties this season, they are a strong community club and have girl’s teams at several different age groups. Matt Light has a young squad this season and they will have endured a steep learning curve. Town have proved competitive in their games, despite the lack of points, and City will need to perform to their usual high standard in Dorset this Sunday.
Whilst promotion is now unachievable, the Grecians will be looking for a high league finish, with second, but most likely third, position still attainable. With a County Cup Final only two weeks away, competition for places will be strong and City will be looking for a clinical display this weekend to finish off what has been a progressive season.
