Young striker Sonny Cox has assessed the importance of the Papa John's Trophy on youth players as City prepare to take on Newport County on Tuesday evening.
Sonny made his first team debut in the competition last season and knows the part it plays in the development of players like himself.
"It's great to have a competition where us younger players can play," he said.
"To make that step into men's football, this is a big opportunity for all of us, especially without the Premier League Cup.
"I'm really proud to have made my league debut this season, it was a tough start to the season with my injury."
