City boss Matt Taylor has given his assessment as the Grecians were held to a goalless draw by ten-man Hartlepool United at St James Park.
Nicky Featherstone's 53rd minute gave City hope, but they couldn't break down a resolute Hartlepool defence who prevented any chance of a Grecians winner.
"We didn't get the ball in the right areas often enough," Matt said.
"I'm disappointed, and I think the players are very disappointed too. We lacked movement, we lacked sharpness. We reset a few things at half time and tried to refocus.
"The sending off changed a few things in terms of space, but we just didn't ask enough questions of their back line."
