Exeter City Women will be looking to make it successive National League victories on Wednesday evening, Portishead Town Ladies are the visitors, as City return to the Exwick Sports Hub for their first home game under the lights this season. (7.45pm Kick Off)
Portishead have enjoyed a successful first season in the National League South West, currently sitting in sixth, one place above the Grecians, having played six games more. Chip Wright and Meg Hardy’s side have been clocking up the miles in recent weeks, Wednesday will be the Possets sixth successive away game. A draw at Maidenhead, wins at Swindon and Poole, coupled with defeats at Bournemouth and Chesham, have seen a mixed run of results, yet in regularly accumulating points, Town have further consolidated their position in the middle of the League table.
Emily Lindsey has led the goalscoring threat this season, her seven goals have been supported by Shannon Holloway and Rosie Hill, with six apiece. The two teams have already met twice this season, Town visiting Devon in pre-season, before the league fixture at Bristol Road in October. Goals from Esme Kilburn-Thompson and Connie Pengelly sealed a two-nil pre-season victory, whilst an excellent City performance on the road saw a four-two win, Phoebe Baker (2), Zoe Watkins and Sarah Stacey with the goals for the Grecians.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side have pending clashes against the division’s top two in April, yet how the team fare against sides directly above them over the next four games will have a huge say on the importance of those games. With only four home fixtures remaining this season, City will be hoping to make home form count in front of a large crowd at the Sports Hub.
