Exeter City's head of coaching, Kevin Nicholson has expressed his delight in seeing under-16 Alfie Cunningham have another strong season in the Academy.
Alfie began the season playing for the under-16s, but would end the season by breaking into the under-18 side, becoming a regular starter towards the end of the season.
Alfie started in the latter stages of the Devon St Luke's Bowl campaign and scored one of the goals of the season against Tavistock in the semi-finals with an excellent turn in midfield followed by a driving run and a magnificent finish from 35 yards into the top corner. The goal was voted by the fans as Goal of the Month for March!
Speaking about Alfie's development, Kevin said: "Alfie's performances in the under-18s have been full of energy, guile, competitiveness and craft, and he has finished the season strong with further international recognition with Wales.
"Alfie played against Turkey, Brazil and Spain in April, and before that he was part of the Wales squad who were joint winners of the 2021/22 Victory shield where he played against Scotland and Northern Ireland.
"Alfie will be starting his first-year as an Exeter City Scholar in June, and we are looking forward to helping him continue his strong progression and development with the hope that he can be another βone of our ownβ to don the famous red and white stripes.
"It would be amazing if he could follow in the footsteps of Ethan Ampadu and play for Exeter and Wales at senior level. I know Alfie loves a challenge!"
