Exeter City manager Matt Taylor has urged the club’s supporters to support a charity match being staged in memory of former striker Adam Stansfield.
The Grecians’ boss will be among the players who will turn out for a South West Legends’ XI against a Yeovil Town Legends’ XI in a match at Yeovil’s Huish Park on Saturday, May 14, to raise funds for the Adam Stansfield Foundation.
He will be joined by players from across the region including ex-Exeter and Torquay man Steve Tully, who will captain the side, defensive partner Rob Edwards and Lee Trundle, the
mercurial former Swansea City and Bristol City striker.
Tickets for the match are on sale now on the Yeovil Town website’s ticketing portal with all proceeds going to the Foundation, which has donated tens of thousands of pounds to schools and individuals across Devon to help give young people sporting opportunities.
Taylor said: “As a player and a person Adam was a person who worked tirelessly and that spirit has never been forgotten by our supporters.
“The work of his family and many Exeter supporters to establish the Foundation and the great work it has done is a fitting tribute and I hope as many people as possible will support this game to help them and remember Adam.”
It is more than six years since Taylor last turned out in a competitive match with his final appearance playing for Bath City in February 2016.
He will line up against a Yeovil Legends’ side managed by Torquay United boss Gary Johnson, who masterminded the Glovers’ rise out of non-League football in 2003 and then returned to guide them to the Championship a decade later.
Kevin Gall, the striker who was part of Yeovil’s first promotion-winning team, and fan Abby Carter have organised the match which will see players from the Johnson era line up alongside each other for the first time.
In the Glovers’ ranks are former Grecians goalkeeper Chris Weale and forward Arron Davies as well as Terry Skiverton, who will be back at the Somerset club, for the first time since leaving to take up a coaching role at League One Charlton Athletic in January.
The South West Legends XI will be managed by former Glovers’ boss Darren Sarll and include players who played with Stansfield at Exeter City and Hereford, as well as for other clubs across the region.
Tickets are priced: Adults ÂŁ8, Under-16s ÂŁ4, Under-4s free admission, with family tickets of two adults and two under-16s available at ÂŁ20.
They are available to buy on the Yeovil Town website ticket portal at ytfc.net/tickets or on the day from 10am at Huish Park.
