📝 Match Preview: Port Vale (A)

Exeter City's attentions turn to the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday with a trip to face Port Vale at Vale Park in the first round.

The match will be the second meeting of the League One sides this season after the Greicans thumping 4-0 win at St James Park back in August, and the first meeting in the Emirates FA Cup since City's 2-0 win back in 2015.

Gary Caldwell's Thoughts

Exeter City Manager Gary Caldwell has had his say ahead of Saturday's Emirates FA Cup first round clash with Port Vale at Vale Park.

"The magic of the Cup is you never know where it can take you." said City's boss who won the Cup as a player with Wigan Athletic back in 2013.

"It's a special occasion that always has a different feel to the League. Everyone is going on a journey and you have to try and get to the next round. That can lead to magical cup runs and cup upsets.

"We've got a difficult game, we understand that and we have to go and try to win and put ourselves in the next round.

"As a manager and as a player I'm someone who tries to win everything, be that a game in training or playing cards with my kids, I want to win. When it comes to these types of games you might want to change the team a bit but the mentality is still the same that we wan't to win, so whatever team we put out I'm convinced will be a team that will be very competitive and can go and beat Port Vale on Saturday."

Harry Kite's Thoughts

Exeter City midfielder Harry Kite said that an FA Cup run is very important to the squad ahead of Saturday's first round clash with Port Vale at Vale Park.

"Last season I played a few games in it and the season before and it's a really good experience." said Harry.

"Anyone that has played in the competition will talk about the magic of the Cup and getting through to the second and third round is a dream of any club, so we will be looking to go there to get the win to get to the second round."

Speaking about his personal memories of the FA Cup, Harry said: "My most recent memory is as being an Exeter lad and supporter and going to the Liverpool game and standing on the Big Bank with my mum and dad and family, and to take them to a replay at Anfield was probably the best moment in the FA Cup that I have been a witness of."
