📝 Match Preview: Barnsley (A)

Exeter City's second game under the interim stewardship of Kevin Nicholson and Jon Hill takes the Grecians to South Yorkshire to face Barnsley at Oakwell.

Last season's relegated side from the Championship are in-form in the third tier, sitting sixth in the table and are undefeated in their last six matches - winning four. Last time out the Tykes were 1-0 winners at the Highbury Stadium as they defeated Fleetwood Town.

The Grecians were 2-1 winners over Southampton under-21 in the Papa Johns Trophy on Tuesday following goals from Matt Jay and Kegs Chauke, with a 2-2 draw at home to Bristol Rovers the last league outing.

Kevin's Thoughts

City's under-18 boss is temporarily steering the ship alongside coach Jon Hill, and is expecting a difficult game against one of the in-form sides in Sky Bet League One.

"I think it's the biggest test the lads will have had this season," Nicholson said.

"It was well spoken about on Tuesday that everyone in League One is a good team. The lads have been a credit to themselves how they've hit this season.

"It's a huge credit to our lads that we get to go to teams like Barnsley and show what we're about.

"They've trained well today and they know what's coming tomorrow in terms of the trip, the travel."

Opposition View

Barnsley manager Michael Duff: "They've been a back three. 3-5-2, 3-4-3, call it what you want. Jevani Brown playing in a number ten role. They're not afraid to go in behind. They put you under pressure, they put balls in the box and they keep it in the top third really well.

"Where they are in the league is success, for them. I don't think I'm been disrespectful. I've been a team that's just been promoted. They've had a good start to the season, probably one of the reasons the manager has been poached, because of their positive style. They'll be looking to carry that momentum on."
