Captain Matt Jay has spoken after our 2-1 win over Southampton, getting on the scoresheet and Matt Taylor leaving for Rotherham.
“It has been a very strange time for everyone at the club, especially us as players, its been the same here for many, many years, it has just been a bit weird and a bit disjointed. For us as players we need to focus on what we need to do and that’s play football," he said following the Papa Johns Trophy win.
“I think we put in a very good performance tonight and one to be quite proud of, especially after everything that’s been going on.
“Its been a bit of whirlwind really and Kevs come in with Jon still and Groundsy helping out and Nicky Ajose, really us as players we’ve kind of got to get on with it, it is football but it doesn’t really happen at Exeter that much and that’s why it probably took everyone by surprise.
"Sometimes, something like this can get you even more up for it and obviously Kevs come in and he wants to set a good impression and we’ll all be fighting for three points that we really desperately want”.
