Matt Taylor has given his thoughts as the Grecians were beaten by Burton Albion at St James Park.
Second half goals from Deji Oshilaja and Davis Keillor-Dunn succumbed the Grecians to a second home defeat of the season, with the manager disappointed in the manner of his side's defending.
"We aren't able to meet the ball anywhere on the pitch, and if you can't do that you have to defend your box," he said.
"That was exposed in our defensive aspects. We have to give the opposition credit. I don't think that's necessarily a weakness of ours but it has been exposed in the last couple of games.
"It's personel, it's execution, but beyond that, it's mindset. I use John Brayford as an example, he is a stark contrast to what I saw from my players today.
"If we want to have any chance this season, players have to be to stand up and be counted when others aren't on the pitch, and unfortunately they didn't do that today."
