🚘 Away Day Guide: Shrewsbury Town

The Grecians hit the road on Tuesday night for a trip to face Shrewsbury Town in League action for the first time since 2015.

Tickets are priced as follows:

  • Senior 65+: £16

  • Studend (NUS): £16

  • Juniors under-12: FREE
  • Carers: FREE

Supporters can also pay by CASH ONLY on the day at the D M Recruitment Stand.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club was formed in 1886 and has been a cornerstone of the Shropshire community ever since. In 2007 the club moved to Montgomery Waters Meadow, an all seater stadium, built just to the south of the picturesque town of Shrewsbury.

The purpose-built stadium has a capacity of 9,875 across four stands with away fans housed in the D M Recruitment Stand. The stand can hold up to 1796 away fans and includes platform seating for disabled fans.

How to get there

By Car

Situated on the South side of Shrewsbury, the Montgomery Waters Meadow is just a stone’s throw away from the A5 and A49.

To find Shrewsbury on google maps then put in ‘Shrewsbury Town Football Club’. If you are using a Sat-Nav then the postcode is ‘SY2 6ST’.

By Train

If you plan to get the train it will require an overnight stay. The latest train coming back would take over 10 hours!

There are plenty to choose from in the day and it takes just under four hours with one change generally. The Stadium is a 30 minute walk from the Town centre.

Grecian Travel

Grecian Travel departs Unit 1 in Exeter at 1pm at a cost of £39.

Please note this will only run if financially viable with 35 travelling

Other pick-up points include: Honiton Road park and ride (by Miller and Carter Steakhouse), junction 28 (Cullompton services), junction 27 (Tiverton), junction 25 (Taunton.) All other pick-ups by prior arrangement.

Parking

There are a number of parking options available for games at the Montgomery Waters Meadow in and around the stadium.

Meole Brace P&R - SY3 9NB (10 mins walk), Wild Pig Pub - SY3 9JT (12 mins walk), Pritchards - SY3 7QZ (15 mins walk).

The turnstiles open at 6:30pm on Tuesday to allow plenty of time to enter the ground

Food and Drink

The ground is situated next to the Meole Brace Retail Park where you can find a number of different food and drink options, including McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Costa Coffee and Starbucks.

Once in the ground there is catering inside the concourse. This includes a selection of Wright’s Pies, Rollover hot dogs, a selection of crisps and chocolate, hot and cold drinks and alcoholic beverages. 

Pubs for Away Fans

If you are looking for something a little stronger then The Wild Pig and Charles Darwin Pubs are the best options. Both are just a 10 to 15-minute walk away from the ground and serve a range of beers, ciders and spirits. They also offer hot meals and matchday parking.

Things to do

Shrewsbury is the county town of Shropshire and is set on the banks of the meandering River Severn. The town itself has a long history and many of the buildings date back to the 16th century and beyond.

Shrewsbury has a lovely mix of high-street stores and local boutiques and there are many pubs, restaurants and bars scattered across the town centre.
