Exeter City Women travel to Wales on Sunday afternoon, as they look to continue their good start to the season at Cardiff City Ladies.
The Grecians currently sit second on goal difference and will be hoping a confident performance at the weekend will maintain a push for top spot in National League One South West.
Cardiff were relegated from the Southern Premier last season and have had a summer rebuild. Jamie Phillip has taken on the Manager’s role and overseen a spectacular start to the new campaign. After an opening day 7-1 destruction of Portishead, the Dragons racked up even more goals on their visit to Cornwall with a 9-0 win at St Austell.
Frustratingly for Phillips' side, that fixture was three weeks ago and they will no doubt be looking forward to returning to the pitch after such an unusual early season pause.
When you have scored sixteen goals in your first two games it will come as no surprise to see Cardiff players topping the goal scoring charts. Welsh International Cori Williams already has five goals to her name, whilst summer signing from Keynsham Town, Kerry Bartlett, has three.
Ellie Sargent, who impressed when the two teams last met, currently heads the league charts with six goals, her two successive hat tricks an impressive way to start the new season.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side will be pleased with their own start, the team already have double the points they had at the same point last season, and Sunday’s game will represent another tough away trip following visits to Southampton and Moneyfields.
Jenna Markham’s arrival from Bridgwater United this week brings more quality and strength to the City squad and, with the robustness already shown on the road this season, it is poised to be an exciting matchup on Sunday.
