Goalscorer Josh Key has reacted to City's defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, having fought tooth and nail against the promotion contenders.
Key's 47th minute header gave the Grecians a surprise lead in front over 26,000 fans at Hillsborough, but were defeated by two second half efforts from the Owls.
"It was a good performance and we came here with the right intent," Key said.
"The position they're in - a lot like the Plymouth game - they've got a lot to play for. Again, it was small moments that have lost us the game and we're all disappointed, but like last week we will take the positives from it.
"I'm pleased to score. I knew JC would be the man to cross it - we'd practiced it in the week. I was playing as a striker and the striker's job is to score goals."
