We can confirm that Academy Graduate Gabriel Billington suffered a significant fracture and dislocation of the ankle at last night's friendly with Exmouth Town and will require surgery.
The injury in the first half caused a lengthy break in play, and Gabe was treated by Physio Michael McBride before being taken to hospital.
Speaking about the injury, manager Gary Caldwell said: "It was an innocuous tackle and he went over and straight away you could see his ankle was pointing in the wrong direction. Fortunately Michael McBride was at the game to watch and reacted incredibly well, he was first on the pitch to give him treatment.
"It's a bad injury as he's got a fracture and a dislocation of the ankle and will be out for a number of months, but for Michael it could have been even worse and he will have the full support of the football club to get back and be even better and stronger as he had a really strong pre-season - so it is a disapointment.
Get well soon Gabe and come back stronger!
