Gary Caldwell has given his assessment as the Grecians were beaten 2-0 by Portsmouth at Fratton Park, ruing missed chances in a game of two halves.
“I thought we played well overall, created some great moments in the game and didn’t take our chances in the final third," he said.
"We had so many opportunities running towards their goal with the extra man and just couldn’t quite find the final pass or shot."
Despite defeat, City had the better of the first half, playing some excellent football at times and created great opportunities.
"I thought it took us 10-15 minutes to get going, but once we got going, I thought we were excellent.
"We had numbers in midfield, we played a box in midfield, and I thought that caused them a lot of problems, we had the spare man a lot in there, if anything I think we can use that even more."
