Gary Caldwell has given his thoughts as Exeter City kicked off 2023 with a backs-to-the-wall win over Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.
Sam Nombe's 13th goal of the season secured a superb victory, in a game where the Grecians had to dig deep to defend their goal, and Caldwell was thrilled with the performance.
"I think we showed a different aspect too our performance today, in terms of grit, resilience, character," he said.
"We had to defend for large periods, the first half in particular, but I’ve said it for a long time, if you get clean sheets if gives you a massive opportunity to win games and that proved to be the case today.
"The longer the game went on I felt we became more a threat, I thought the second half we created better chances and deserved to win the game.
Credit to the players for their effort and their application, team spirit again to win a football match was there in abundance in the second half.'
