Exeter City Women’s season hits the half way point on Sunday afternoon as Southampton Women’s FC are the visitors to the Exwick Hub on Sunday, City will be looking to get momentum going in 2023 after a frustrating two weeks of postponed fixtures.
The Sirens have enjoyed a competitive first half of the season, sitting fifth in the division having won five and lost three of their eight league games. The Sirens have also progressed to the Semi Final of the League Cup with a sensational comeback victory over Billericay Town last weekend. After trailing by three goals, a Rachel Okoro hat trick helped seal a comeback win in impressive fashion.
The two teams have already met once this season, an injury time winner from Sarah Stacey taking all three points in an entertaining win for the Grecians in Hampshire. As established National League sides, the teams have met on a regular basis in recent seasons and Aaron Smith’s team only continue to strengthen with the recent accusation of prolific forward Shannon Albuery from AFC Bournemouth.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s team will be keen to get back to action. With half the season still to play, it is far too early to begin talking of title chances, but whether the Grecians are in the hunt come April will largely depend on how the next few weeks play out.
