Exeter City Women continue their pre-season preparation with the visit of Adran South Welsh Champions Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies to the Exwick Sports Hub on Sunday (2pm KO)
Rhys Jones’ side enjoyed a highly successful 2022/23 campaign, winning fifteen of their sixteen league fixtures and coasting to the title with an eleven-point winning margin. The Ferrys faced Adran North Winners Wrexham in a play-off final and were narrowly beaten by a goal to nil. There was further progress in the Welsh FA Cup, Jones’ side reaching the Final once more, this time beaten by Adran Premier Champions Cardiff City FC.
Megan Kearle starred for the Ferry’s with a twenty goal return last season, whilst Captain Lowri Ridings was voted Manager’s Player of the Year and Player of the Season for the Adran South in recognition for her strong defensive performances. Full back Ela Roberts will also be one to watch at the weekend, an eye-catching season at full back for the converted winger earned her the Young Player of the Year award for the division, with midfielder Laura-May Walkley also making the league’s team of the season.
Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side have two games in four days against Welsh opponents and will be keen to continue the level of performance that has seen them match Southern Premier sides Oxford United and Cheltenham Town in their two previous fixtures. After rotating two starting elevens last weekend, the Grecians will now be looking to focus in on that all important starting eleven for the season’s kick off on August 20th at Bridgwater United.
