A cricket team, based just outside of Exeter, is the latest group to receive funding through our We Win You Win competition.
Thanks to club sponsor Carpetright, south west based grassroots sports teams are invited to apply for a grant of £500 every time Exeter City wins a match. And the latest winners, following our 2-0 victory over Cambridge last month, are Thorverton Cricket Club.
Jake Choules, from Thorverton Cricket Club, said: “We are an inclusive cricket club based just outside of Exeter. We have approximately 100 junior members and 50 senior members. We launched a ladies’ section two years ago, so now offer cricket to all ages and genders.
“Recent rises in energy bills and the general cost of living have had a worrying impact on the club. The prize money would help with crucial start-up costs ahead of the summer. We would also look to improve our coaching offering and purchase coaching equipment for all of the boys, girls, men and women that use the club.”
Jake added: “In addition to those that play cricket, the club is an important feature to other members of the community as local people from all sorts of backgrounds visit to watch games, use the facilities and suchlike. We have ties to nearby villages and schools who sometimes using the ground during summer months.”
