✍️ Gary Woods signs new one-year contract

We are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Gary Woods has signed a new one-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Woods arrived in Devon in January on a short term deal following his departure from Kilmarnock in Scotland, and has featured seven times for the Grecians, keeping two clean sheets.

Woods had initially been ruled out for the season through injury in mid-March, but returned to the squad at the end of April for the final matches of the season.

Speaking after City's 3-2 win over Morecambe on the final day of the League One season, Woods said: "It was an easy decision to make as since I've come down here, I've really enjoyed my time. The people at the club have made me feel really welcome so for me it was a no brainer.

"I've really enjoyed it here and I was disappointed to pick up my injury when I did but sometimes in football there is nothing you can do about it, so now I'm just looking forward to resting over the summer and getting ready to go for pre-season.

"Ultimately, next season I want to play more games on build on what I've already done this season,. The manager has not given me any new expectations, and he still wants everyone to be competing for a starting spot. We've got a competitive squad and I want to be in it on the first day of the season.

"It's been brilliant to work with Jamal this season, and Harry Lee is young and upcoming so me and Jamal have tried to give him as much help as we can. We're a good trio, and working with Kevin Miller as well. Kev has been brilliant - after every game we all sit down together and discuss where you can improve. as a goalkeeper, you can never stop improving.

"Next season we have to be tighter defensively. You concede as a team, it's not down to one particular person, so if we work as a team and do our jobs individually as well, we can cut down the number of goals we concede.
