Hundreds of people who attended our annual Party in the Park this summer helped to raise more than £6,000 for a special cause.
The funds raised at the free event have been donated to Team Evo – The Fight Against MND, a campaign which was established to support Pete Eveleigh, the Exeter City Community Trust inclusion coach who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in November last year, at the age of just 30.
A total of £6,160 was raised through contributions on the day and through an online auction. The funds will go towards supporting with medical costs and supporting Pete’s family both now and in the future.
Pete’s wife, Jess, said the family was very grateful to everyone who contributed to the fundraising.
She added: “Exeter City and the Community Trust have been a huge part of Pete’s life for a long time. We’re very grateful to the club for its generosity in donating the collection to Pete and would like to pass on our thanks to everyone who contributed.”
Event organiser and chair of the club’s Supporter Experience Committee, Clive Harrison, said: “It was a fantastic event, which also included the reveal of the club’s new kit for this season, as well as appearances from our men’s, women’s and parasports teams. Thank you to everyone who attended and who donated so generously.”
Scott Walker, head of participation at Exeter City Community Trust, said he was grateful to everyone who contributed to making the day a success.
He added: “Through this event we were able to raise the profile of MND, the impact it has and the battle that Pete Eveleigh and his family are facing each day.
“It was also an opportunity to showcase the Football Club, Exeter City Community Trust and our family ethos. We offered activities for all ages, from three to 83, and on the day everyone had fun.”
Scott added: “A huge thank you to all the volunteers for their hard work. The money raised will support and enable Pete and his family to make some happy memories together.”
