Gary Caldwell has given his reaction as City were frustratingly beaten at home to promotion chasing Barnsley at SJP.
The Grecians deserved much more from the game that they got, with Demi Mitchell striking the post twice in the second half.
"I'd have been disappointed with a 0-0. To throw it away shows where we are at the moment. Big moments cost us," Gary said.
"We had a go. I think we can still play with more intensity but we did create some good opportunities, but always did look vulnerable in areas like that and concede a terrible goal at the end.
"We are causing ourselves our own problems. We have two weeks now to work hard on the training ground to put things right. We have to learn from it quickly and improve.
"We have to regroup and use the international break to recover and work hard. You don't become a bad team overnight. We have gone against what we were doing early in the season.
"The realisation has to come that we have to be better."
