Exeter City Women return to action on Sunday as they travel to Maidenhead looking to keep their winning run to the new season going with a fifth consecutive league victory.
The Magpies have enjoyed a steady start to the campaign, Ed Jackson-Sankey continuing his fine job of stabilising the team after taking over in tricky circumstances last Summer.
An opening day victory over Keynsham Town has been backed up with points against Selsey and Torquay United, the York Road side also blitzing past Selsey in the Plate Competition with a nine-goal victory this past Sunday. Maidenhead regulars Natalie Cowell and Simone O’Brien have started the season well, with three and five goals respectively.
Jackson-Sankey certainly had a busy summer, Ruth Topping, Gemma Luke, Jade Hockey, Isabel Davis, Vicky Collett, Kendra Clarke and Alicia Taylor among those players added to the squad ahead of the new season. Finishing in tenth position in 2022/23, there is potential for this United team to fare better this campaign and certainly not to be in a position where relegation is a concern.
City have a strong record in Berkshire, recording a 5-0 victory last season and will be looking to make a winning start to a busy week of three league fixtures. With Cup football about to take priority following next Sunday's visit to Southampton Women’s FC and City’s title rivals facing each other in the coming days, this could be an important week as all the leading team’s fight for the momentum heading into the Autumn months.
