Club captain Pierce Sweeney has given a frank and honest assessment of defeat at Derby County, as the Grecians continue to find themselves in a poor run of form.
City have now lost six in a row and an emotional Sweeney says things must improve ahead of Saturday's game with Lincoln.
""This is a difficult position for us to be in. We have to hit Saturday with everything we have got," he said.
"It's a tough evening. Coming into the game I felt confident, regardless of recent results. I didn't see us in the first half an hour too far off the pace. But we showed them too much respect.
"We've got good team spirit, but we need that when we're not doing so well too. We're conceding too many soft goals and individually and as a team we haven't been good enough."
