Tom Carroll has assessed City's 2-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic at SJP, as the Grecians failed to take countless chances.
Carroll played 74 minutes against the Latics, but could not help City convert one of their 29 goal opportunities, with just four on target across the 102 minutes of action.
"That was really disappointing and not a result I felt we deserved," Tom said.
"I feel like we shot ourselves with the first goal, when you concede early at home you make it hard for yourselves. It's frustrating but we've got a game Tuesday to put it right.
"It's hard to take because I felt we were good in spells but we just have to take our chances and put one in the back of the net. We put the ball in the box quite a lot, perhaps we have to be a little smarter in and around the box, as we just didn't do enough.
"We feel like we have performed well at times in a majority of recent games but on paper that doesn't show and that it what we have to change."
