City defender Zak Jules has given an honest assessment as the Grecians were beaten 3-0 at Oxford United.
It was a difficult afternoon for City with the concession of an early goal and two second-half penalties and Jules felt his side lacked in certain areas.
"There was a couple of lapses in concentration and we got caught too often on the counter-attack," Jules said.
"I felt all three goals were soft and very preventable which is even more disappointing. We shot ourselves in the foot and that was tough to take.
"The initial reaction from the lads at the end was sheer disappointment. This was a chance for us to capitalise on our position in the league and we've not done that.
"It is what it is and we have to learn from it."
