Exeter City Women go into their final away fixture of the season looking to regain top spot and set themselves up for a winner takes all finale against AFC Bournemouth next weekend.
It has not been an easy campaign for Portishead Town, with the team involved in a relegation battle for the majority of the season. However, last weekend’s impressive 4-0 victory at Torquay United secured the team’s place in the National League for the 2024/25 season.
Crucial wins over Abingdon United, Maidenhead United and the Yellows all coming in 2024 have played a key role in the Possets survival, a 4-0 mid-week defeat at home to Bridgwater United underlining the roller coaster of a season it has been for the North Somerset side.
A regular flow of goals has been a problem this season, Stella Gandee-Morgan topping the charts with seven, she has been supported by Tamzin Hayward, Shannon Holloway and Ellie Brindley. Captain Laura Barrett has been a dominant force in defence, picking up praise from opposition managers for her consistency.
The two sides met back in October, doubles from Jenna Markham and Zoe Cunningham followed the opener from Zoe Watkins securing all three points for City at the Exwick Sports Hub.
A win for Abbie Britton and Aaron Wakley’s side would keep two possible results open to them for the final game, a draw against AFC Bournemouth being enough to secure the title should three points be gained on Sunday. The Grecians will be confident of another win, but building momentum for the title decider will be the key focus.
