Manager Gary Caldwell has given his reaction following the release of the EFL fixtures on Wednesday morning.
The Grecians have been handed an opening day clash with Rotherham United at St James Park, with a tough run-in to begin the season.
"It's always and exciting day in the calendar when you are back in pre-season and you are starting that work and preparation, then you find out what lies ahead of you."
"Steve Evans is someone I came up against a few times last year and I have a lot of respect fore him, so yeah, an exciting opening day."
Gary had particular eyes on certain fixtures in the calendar, with Boxing Day set to yet again be a home clash for the Grecians.
"It's one I always look straight for and to have Bristol Rovers means it'll be a sell-out here and it's one to look forward to,"
"But it's Wigan and Stockport for me. I know the Stockport owner really well and they have done fantastic over the last few years.
"The stadium is actually ten minutes from my house so lots of family will be able to come to that game, and my lad actually plays for the Stockport under-14s. That will be a big one and Wigan is always a special occasion for me.:
