Gary Caldwell was pleased with how his side performed under the Cornish sun as the Grecians beat Mousehole AFC 4-1.
City’s gaffer used this fixture as an opportunity to try certain tactics, as he discussed after the full-time whistle.
“We know from last year that Mousehole want to play out from the back, so we felt it was a really good opportunity to go full press all over the pitch,” City’s gaffer explained.
That press led to two early goals from Millenic Alli, who then completed his hat-trick with a pinpoint free-kick in the second half. Gary was delighted with his striker’s performance, as well as several young players who came on in the second half.
“Milly took his chances well; he looked a real threat, and his sharpness looked better than the first two games.
“It’s great to see the young players who we have unearthed. Jake Richards made his first appearance here last year and I said to the young boys whenever you get the opportunity to train with us, play with us, you have to leave an impression on us and show you’re a good footballer and I thought all of them today showed their quality.”
One of those young players was Santino Ohanaka, who provided the assist for Josh Magennis’ header with a perfectly placed cross.
“It was a brilliant cross and some great moments from Santino and he showed in 1v1 situations a real threat and he’s someone who’s left a mark on us.”
